(71761) Use of Solar Energy for REFRIGATION

Sun is a never ending and a very useful source of energy. Today as we face problems of pollution and global warming, it has become essential for us to harness the solar energy to cut down the fuel costs and to lower our carbon footprints.

My idea is to develop a refrigator which purely works on solar energy without using electric batteries or any other conventional sourceof energy. I am working on a project to develop a solar refrigator which would be used both domestically and commercially. It will help save a lot of electricity and also to cut down the release of harmful CFC's that are used currently in cooling systems.

Hello.
The title of my idea which gives these details is given in my previous comment... but the basic principle is that the Kyoto box design which is used for slow cooking, heats up the zeer (two terracotta pots, one inside the other with sand in between which is dowsed in water, the heat from the sun causing the water to evaporate and draw heat from the inner pot thus refrigerating it inside) by using the kyoto box to enhance the heat focused on the zeer, the evaporation takes place faster and therefore the inside should cool even further than the zeer can by the direct sunlight alone.

Good idea.
Have a search on the internet for 'zeer', which may offer the principles for you to work from... I have adapted a similar idea for use with the kyoto box to make a fridge, called 'fridge in a box' (snappy title eh?)
good luck with it.
